Development

It was produced in consultation with a working group from various government departments, National Archives of Scotland, National Assembly for Wales, Scottish Parliament and Conwell Management Consultants. The former e-Government Unit agreed to incorporate this standard into version 2 of the e-GMS. TNA have developed associated XML schemas for the purpose of exchanging metadata between EDRM systems

Benefits

All ERM systems approved against the 2002 requirements had to conform to the standard. There are approximately 60 central government departments and agencies using these systems and 33 local authorities (source - http://www.brent.gov.uk/egr.nsf/SCV?ReadForm&View=ProdByType&Category=Records+Management). There approximately 100 more (source - http://www.brent.gov.uk/egr.nsf/SCV?ReadForm&View=ProdByType&Category=Records+Management) who are using just the document management features of these products which will conform in part to the standard.
